How to Fit Invisalign Into Your Life

We’ve been instructed to stop life in its tracks and change how everything is done. Coronavirus isn’t making life easy, but people everywhere are making life work. And you now have plenty of time to think. All those excuses you’ve given about not having room for Invisalign? If you take a long look at what’s possible, you can probably admit that they no longer apply. You may have already reached the point where you’re thinking, “Why didn’t I just get the treatment started already?” So, let’s plan for a future with Invisalign.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Invisalign must be removed for all meals. Even if you’re just having a light bowl of cereal or a protein shake that seems like it can’t possibly hurt the aligners, a meal is a meal. If you don’t remove Invisalign when you eat, you risk breaking your aligners as well as staining them. And a major perk of wearing Invisalign is that it’s difficult to see – the food and drink you ingest could stain the aligners and make them noticeable. The aligners are worn 20 to 22 hours a day – you can enjoy a well-deserved break at meal time.

Coffee Break or Snack

It can be tempting to sip on your favorite beverage or sneak a little snack without removing Invisalign. Don’t give in! Always remove Invisalign for snacks too. Just because it won’t take you long to eat or drink whatever you’ve opted for as a snack, that doesn’t mean the act won’t damage your aligners. The last thing you want to do is derail your treatment because of a bad eating choice.

Many people who wear Invisalign find they lose weight during treatment because they’re more deliberate and thoughtful about snacking. Instead of enduring the hassle of removing Invisalign, they simply wait for a meal and forgo a snack they perhaps didn’t need anyway.

Work

One of the biggest worries adults have about Invisalign is how it will impact their professional life, especially if you interact with people regularly. Like all orthodontic measures, it will take some time to get used to Invisalign. Once this adjustment period is over, however, you will feel comfortable about wearing your aligners and trust that they won’t interrupt your speech, appearance, or smile.

Play

Unless you’re in a heavy contact sport that requires you to wear a mouth guard, whatever extracurricular activity you’re involved in will seamlessly work with Invisalign. Yoga, gym workouts, running, rock climbing, biking, and so on – when you’re active, Invisalign is still doing its job. And the only thing you should be drinking to rehydrate during these activities is water, so no need to work about removing Invisalign to refuel.

Maintain

Maintaining Invisalign is easy. You brush and floss your teeth as usual and clean the aligners too. It is necessary to add a few extra cleanings to your routine, especially after every meal and before Invisalign is snapped back in place. It’s important to avoid trapping food or bacteria between teeth and aligners.
