Get More Than Straight Teeth with Invisalign

Living with nearly invisible aligners, day in and day out, for an average of 12 months, is a commitment, but it’s a worthwhile commitment. Invisalign patients will discover plenty of perks throughout their treatment, many they didn’t expect. By the end of your Invisalign treatment, you’ll have a straight smile and then some.

Say Goodbye to Bad Habits

Do you constantly chew gum? Do you drink coffee all day long? Do you chew on ice or gnaw on pens or pencils? While you may consider these activities vices rather than bad habits, all of them are bad for your teeth.

Invisalign nixes your gum-chewing habit entirely. You simply can’t chew gum while you’re wearing the aligners. If you need to do some chomping during the brief times during when you do remove Invisalign throughout the day, just make sure you’re chewing sugar-free gum with Xylitol.

A coffee habit may keep you going at work or home, but sipping on coffee over an extended period of time makes you far more likely to develop tooth stains. Enter Invisalign: You are only allowed to drink water while wearing the aligners. You don’t have to give up coffee entirely, but you do need to budget time for your must-have beverage and learn how to wean yourself off a constant cup.

If you’re one of those folks who use their teeth the wrong way – opening packages with your teeth, chewing on writing instruments, chomping on ice – you’re putting yourself at risk for a broken or damaged tooth. With Invisalign in place, you won’t be able to do any of these things, and that’s a plus.

Drop a Few Pounds

Invisalign has some hard and fast rules. One of the biggest requirements: No eating while wearing the invisible aligners. If you eat or drink while wearing Invisalign, you risk damaging your aligners. You may crack or break an aligner if you attempt to chew any food with Invisalign in place. If you drink anything but water, you risk staining the aligners, which will compromise their natural clear state and just make them look gross.

These strict orders mean you must think long and hard about whether you’re willing to remove the aligners to indulge in an unexpected snack or birthday cake at the office or even that glass of wine at happy hour. As a result, you may find yourself slimming down a bit, an often-welcome side effect of wearing Invisalign 20 to 22 hours a day and being forced to make smart choices about what you put in your body and when.

Plus, you’re doing your oral health a favor by limiting your indulgences. Snacking simply isn’t good for your teeth. Three square meals a day and a snack are the healthy way to eat,. If you find yourself dipping your hand in the candy jar or indulging in a few cookies, you’re exposing your teeth to a constant sugar bath. Your hunger may be abated, but your teeth are in trouble. Invisalign must be removed for all meals, so snackers learn to think twice before removing their aligners and noshing – and that does your tooth enamel good, and maybe even your waistline.

Be a Confident Invisalign Patient

One of the most welcome perks of wearing Invisalign is the almost immediate confidence boost. You’re on the road to a straight, beautiful smile, and you’re doing it discreetly. No one ever needs to know that your teeth are on the road to alignment, and that means your personal, professional, and social life can stay happily the same.
