5 Ways to Fix Gapped Teeth

Gapped teeth are common. Some people embrace this characteristic of their smile, others hate it. Often, the location of the gap(s) makes all the different. A front tooth gap can be a great quirk, while an odd gap between two non-prominent teeth can look unsightly and unhealthy. There are many ways to correct this cosmetic issue, whether you have one gap or multiple gaps.

1. Invisalign

If your mouth is riddled with gaps between your teeth, one of the most obvious ways to make these gaps permanently disappear is with orthodontics. Most adults aren’t interested in drawing attention to their smiles with metal brackets and wires so they opt for Invisalign.

This clear aligner method takes about a year to complete, on average, and works just like braces – gently but consistently pushing teeth together and into alignment through the force of the aligner trays.

2. Porcelain Veneers

Sometimes, small teeth are the reason behind plentiful teeth gaps. If your adult teeth erupt and are small, they may not line up properly with nearby teeth, leaving spaces between teeth. Veneers fix all these problems – and then some – in one procedure.

Veneers are super-thin, super-strong porcelain shields that cover each treated tooth. Short or small teeth can be lengthened and made to look natural in size and shape. Through this customized treatment, gaps are eliminated and your smile will look whiter, brighter, and flawless.

3. Cosmetic Tooth Bonding

If you have small gaps between teeth, cosmetic tooth bonding can close them up. This composite material is like that used for tooth-colored fillings. Your dentist often fills in the space by building up the size of the teeth on either side of the gap until they meet in a more natural way, thus eliminating the space.

4. Dental Implants

If you are missing a tooth – whether it never erupted or was extracted or knocked out – and that is the reason for a major gap between teeth, it is important to replace this tooth permanently. When you want to fix this problem and never have to think about the repair again, consider a dental implant. This permanent restorative dentistry solution replaces both tooth root and crown, so you have a strong, complete repair that fills the hole in your smile.

5. Dental Bridge

If you are interested in a minimally invasive solution to restore a missing tooth, consider the dental bridge. This repair fills in the hole with a prosthetic tooth and is held in place by metal clasps and anchored with two porcelain crowns for a complete restoration. Bridges are secure, long-lasting solutions for missing or severely gapped teeth.
