4 Reasons Invisalign Is Better Than Metal Braces

It’s a no-brainer, right? You can barely see Invisalign, and who wouldn’t like the option to get straight teeth on the sly? Invisalign has the monopoly on clear aligners, but there are even more reasons to love this cosmetic dentistry treatment.

1. No pain, plenty of gain.

Metal braces are notorious for causing the wearer discomfort. The wires and brackets are bumpy and jagged, making it easy for them to catch on lips and cheeks. The braces can break or a wire can pop out of place, causing even more pain.

Invisalign is snug-fitting – it needs to be to do the hard work of shifting your teeth – and it can cause some pressure at the start of each set of aligners. However, that pressure is the extent of the “pain.” The aligners themselves are super-smooth and easy to live with and wear for 20 to 22 hours a day. Knowing that they’re getting straight teeth in a sneaky way is enough to help any Invisalign patient accept the feeling of this orthodontic method.

2. Chow down.

There are no food restrictions for Invisalign wearers. Love popcorn? Dig in. Craving a steak? Chew away. Desperate for an apple? Crunch and munch. People who wear metal braces aren’t allowed to enjoy certain foods because they’re too sticky or chewy or stringy. And whatever braces-wearers do eat, there is always the potential for any food to settle among the brackets and wires.

All you have to do is remove Invisalign before every meal or snack, and clean your teeth and aligners before putting them back together after eating. A small price to pay for the freedom of eating whatever you want, whenever you want it.

3. No chance of negative nicknames.

People who wear braces are at risk for those age-old nicknames like metal-mouth and brace-face. Not so with Invisalign. No one will even know you’re wearing the clear aligners unless you tell. That means you can smile, speak, and enjoy life as always. There will be no dings to your self-esteem. You won’t feel like you have to hide your teeth when you smile.

In fact, Invisalign wearers get a confidence boost because they can see their teeth getting straighter, and they can enjoy knowing that it’s all happening quietly and without anyone noticing.

4. Spectacular speed.

Conventional braces treatment can take a few years to complete, depending on how complex your alignment issues are. Invisalign, on average, takes one year to complete from start to finish, though some cases may be a little shorter or a little longer. The speed at which your teeth move and your adherence to the treatment plan will influence the length of your treatment.

For the patients who have simpler cases, there is Invisalign Express. This treatment is designed to help people who have crowding or spacing problems that can be corrected in 10 stages of aligners or less. A full course of Invisalign typically takes 18 to 30 aligners for treatment to be complete.
