Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, using the Haymarket Gainesville Library as a starting point:
- Take US-15 south. After the overpass, turn left onto Washington St, left again at the Chick-fil-A, and left again into our parking lot. We’re at 15234 Washington St, right here in Haymarket. The drive takes about 8 minutes.
- If you prefer a more scenic route, turn off of US-15 left onto Old Carolina Rd, then right onto Washington St. Turn right before Chick-fil-a, and we’re in the next building on the left.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Haymarket’s story begins long before its official founding, earning the nickname “The Crossroads” due to the hunting paths that converged in this strategic location. After the American Revolutionary War, the town was formally established in 1799 on land owned by William Skinker. The Virginia General Assembly granted Skinker the rights to lay out the town, which he designed with 13 streets and 140 lots. By 1801, a clerk’s office and jail were constructed, as Haymarket had been selected as the site for a district court. These regular court sessions fueled the town’s early growth and brought business and trade to the area.
In 1807, the district court system was abolished in favor of circuit courts at each county seat, yet Haymarket’s courthouse remained a central landmark until 1830, when it was converted into an Episcopal church and later consecrated as St. Paul’s in 1833. Haymarket was officially incorporated in 1882, becoming the second town in Prince William County to achieve this status, with Garrett Hulfish serving as its first mayor.
From 1882 to today, many of the buildings in central Haymarket have remained beautifully preserved. The town’s connection to Interstate 66 in the 1970s sparked significant suburban growth, transforming Haymarket into the thriving, family-friendly community it is today—while still honoring its historic charm and small-town character.
